This trophy match is a best of five team race with alternating helms (co-skippering) amongst six All-Star Teams representing the British University Sailing Association (BUSA) and the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA).
The ICSA team was represented by a MAISA all-star line up of Joshua Greenslade (SMC '14)/Peter Johns (GTN '12), Victor Diaz de Leon (SMC '13)/Gavin Rudolph (ODU '12), Chris Barnard (GTN '13)--sporting American flag shorts/Kayla McComb (SMC '13).
In a rainy five knot easterly the contest began slightly after 4pm with local umpires Stovy Brown and Guy Barbato working to keep the playing field level. Bill Ward who led the ICSA All-Star team on their trip to the UK in 2005 served as PRO.
The ICSA team drew first blood in race one with the Brits having a deep six at the start—after getting shut out at the boat end. The ICSA team converted right away to a 2,3,4 and won with a 1,2.
The Brits struck back in race two with a dominate start and they continued to control the right and walked to an easy 1,2,4.
Race three had a protest that ended in turns for the BUSA team and the ICSA took a 2-1 lead.
Race four the British took control with a 1,3,5 off the line and Kayla and Peter converted to a 2,3 before the windward mark. With the Brits 1,4,5 downwind they converted to a 1,2,6.
Gavin Rudolph and Victor Diaz de Leon passed into second and went to work to convert into a 'play two'—2, 3, 4 to take the victory!
ICSA 3-BUSA 1.
Despite the rainy conditions the two teams had good fun and showed great camaraderie.
