Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron invites owners and charterers of all eligible monohull yachts to enter the Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race starting at noon on Friday 3 August 2012.
Now in its sixth year, this exciting race is the premier offshore yachting event for the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and continues to grow in popularity. In recent years the race has attracted up to 35 yachts including the high performance yacht Wild Oats XI and the super maxi Lahana.
This year the race organisers are hoping there will be 50 entrants at the start. ‘This is really the signature yacht race for Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Our aim is to make the race bigger and better every year as we continue to make our stamp on the offshore racing calendar,’ said Squadron’s Commodore Greg Clarke.
The 348 nautical mile race will start just east of Green Island in Moreton Bay. The yachts will cruise along the shorelines of Fraser Island before crossing the Tropic of Capricorn to finish at Keppel Bay Marina.
The Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race is part of Queensland Tourism's Season of Sailing calendar and is proudly sponsored by Club Marine, Club Super, Angove Family Winemakers, O’Reilly’s Real Estate, Keppel Bay Marina, Morgan's Seafood, David Bray Yachts, Stones Premium Ginger Beer, Bundaberg Rum, WIN Television, Capricorn Enterprise and the Rockhampton Regional Council. Club Marine, as the principal sponsor, has been associated with the Brisbane to Keppel since the inaugural race.
The race is hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly with the support of Keppel Bay Marina, Keppel Bay Sailing Club, Yeppoon Coast Guard and Bundaberg VMR.
Entries are open now and close at 5pm on Friday 20 July 2012.
