The 54th annual Brisbane Boat Show began yesterday, Friday 12 September, under sunny skies and high-20s temperatures, with 110 exhibitors over a massive area at RNA Showgrounds - a combination which is sure to lure visitors in their droves over the weekend.

With a catch cry of 'Everything marine under one roof', this is a boat show for boaties by boaties – some of whom have been exhibiting as part of the Brisbane Boat Show since its inception.

The 'Ride For Life' PWC safety campaign launched yesterday following the official opening and address by Marine Queensland President, Matthew Hodson.

The state-wide campaign aims to encourage people to ride their personal watercraft safely with the slogan 'Smart Riders are Safe Riders'.

Organiser, Marine Queensland stated that this year’s show is the biggest in terms of floor space, activity and exhibitors for about 10 years, with a huge diversity of product.

'This year we are especially proud of the new tackle precinct. Responding to feedback from visitors for premium products, that need will be met this year, thanks to our partnership with AFTA,' said Marine Queensland CEO, Don Jones.

For the kids, there’s the Kids Zone, with a number of marine-oriented attractions, such as the fishing activity by 2 Bent Rods, and a large slide out of a shark’s mouth! The Yamaha Super Tank and presentations will be in full swing, plus there's a new attraction intended to equip you with the skills to tow and manouvre your boat: a towing workshop aptly named 'Ramp Champ'.

At the opening of the event, Matt Hodson proclaimed 2014 a milestone year for Marine Queensland and many exhibitors at this year's show.

'2014 is a special year for many of our long established members including firstly your own industry body Marine Queensland formerly known as the Boating Industry Association of Queensland.

'MQ marks its 40th year promoting boating and collectively representing its members. Other milestones being celebrated this year are BLA’s 40th year, Dunbier Trailers 45th year, John Crawford Marine’s 50th year, Cruise Craft’s 68th year, Telwater builders of the iconic Quintrex brand marks its 69th year!

'Considering Australia was founded some 226 years ago it’s an impressive history and congratulations to those businesses standing the test of time.'

In wrapping up, Hodson praised the Queensland industry for its innovation and ingenuity, stating that 'Marine Queensland now represents over 330 leading marine businesses and over 770,000 boat license holders in Queensland'.

Brisbane Boat Show runs until 5pm Monday 15 September.
