BT Global Challenge Finish News

by BT Global Challenge Media on 1 Jul 2001
Today, Saturday 30th June, many thousands of people will be able to experience the tense final moments of the
world’s toughest yacht race, the BT Global Challenge via a live Webcast, broadcast from the official website
www.btchallenge.com

Focussing on the ultimate leg of the 10-month yacht race, from La Rochelle to Southampton, the live webcast will
run off the site from 10.00am until the last yacht arrives home.

The webcast will capture the sweat, tears and celebrations of the skippers and crews as they fight to finish the
intense final leg. The live feeds will be transmitted from each of the 12 yachts as well as from the tracking helicopter,
which will be supplying unique aerial race footage. Interspersed with the action and fierce competition will be live
interviews with prominent race figures, such as Sir Chay Blyth of Challenge Business, Ian Keith, the technology guru
behind the sophisticated BT yacht technology, and Phil London, project director, BT Global Challenge.

'During the past ten months, BT’s technology has helped to bring a global sporting event into the public eye,'
commented Keith, BT Ignite R&D programme manager. 'The ‘final moments’ webcast will provide a fitting finale to a
yachting event that has sailed hand in hand with technology throughout.'

The state of the art technology behind the webcast will ensure that as far as possible it will retain the picture and
sound quality of a TV broadcast. The BT Tower will be receiving the footage to supply to all television stations. Aside
from its prominent position on the official website, the webcast footage will also be shown on large screens
positioned in both public and VIP areas of Ocean Village, Southampton.
