Australians win Race 7 at Tornado Worlds

by Sail-World.com on 29 Feb 2008
A perfect start from Darren Bundock and Glen Ashby Sail-World.com/NZ
A blistering start for Australia’s Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby in Race 7 at the Tornado Worlds today.

They had a perfectly timed start and they led from the pin. Second round the top mark, a length behind them was the Canadian boat, skippered by Oskar Johansson with Kevin Stittle crewing followed by Germany’s Roland Gaebler and Gunnar Stuckmann and and the American pairing of John Lovell and Charlie Ogletree. The series leader Frenchman Yannon Guichard with Alexandre Guyader was fifth.

Down the run the Canadians fell back and by the top mark for the second time the Australians had opened a big lead of at least six lengths over Gaebler, Guichard had climbed to third place. On the third leg, Mitch Booth sailed through the French crew.

The Australians extended to a 43 second win, ahead of Gaebler, then Lovell, Booth and Guichard. They started the regatta poorly but they are coming home well.
