New marina at St.Kilda Harbour open for business!
Thu, 6 Feb 2014
Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron officially opened its state-of-the-art 250-berth marina on Sunday 2nd February. Hundreds of members, friends and dignitaries celebrated the event on the marina and on boats in the brand new pens. Wendy Stapleton and her band rocked the crowd, starting in brilliant sunshine and continuing long after the city lights had formed an idyllic backdrop.
To mark the opening a symbolic ribbon was simultaneously cut by RMYS Commodore, Linda Goldsmith, Stuart Tait, the Squadron’s Marina Project Director, Maggie Barron from the Department of Transport, Zoe Hogg from Earthcare, Graeme Davis from Parks Victoria, and Serge Thomann, the City of Port Phillip’s Deputy Mayor.
The party went a very long way in reinforcing RMYS’s reputation as the friendliest club on Port Phillip.
Now that the marina has been officially opened boats can make the marina their destination, whether it’s for an overnight stay, for 12 months, or anytime in-between.
RMYS originally set aside 128 pens across the 10m to 20m range for long term leases of 20 years and only a handful remain, with all the 10m berths are now spoken for. There are also short term rental pens of up to 12 months available, and allowance has been made within the new facility for some multihulls and powerboats.
