At the i14 Worlds, an overcast sky and light winds saw the opening of day two of fleet racing. The wind was at eight knots out of the South West. Unfortunately the sea breeze did not kick in today, likely due to cloudy skies above. The warning signal went off promptly at 1:00 pm. The fleet had a clean start with only one boat OCS'd at go, a welcomed change from the multiple general recalls of yesterday. The course ran a distance of 1.5 nautical miles, positioned slightly more in-shore.
By the second upwind, it was GBR 1543 that had taken a clear lead, with GBR 1519 following several boat lengths behind. An exciting finish played out as GBR 1519 came from behind to take the win. Unfortunately the wind did not stick around and dropped down to 3-5 knots after the second lap. The conditions forced the race committee to shorten course for the last leg, allowing boats to finish downwind and head in rather than trek back up the course for a windward finish.
Today's lighter breeze will certainly have an effect on results. Quite a change in finishing order from the breeze yesterday. All in all it was another great day on the water. Many thanks to the race committee for all their continued hard work.
