ISAF Decisions - Kellett misses out, but Windsurfing back for 2016
Tue, 13 Nov 2012

The election for the President and seven Vice Presidents of ISAF resulted in Carlos Croce (ITA) being elected in the second round after Australia's David Kellett was dropped out, and the final vote was between Croce, the son of former ISAF President Beppe Croce. and Eric Tulla (PUR).

Talking to Sail-World today an obviously disappointed David Kellett, said that the deciding factor was plainly the determination of the European nations not to have the Presidency leave Europe. The location of the AGM meeting meant that many European countries attended who would not have, if the meeting had been in the America's or elsewhere. David will be back on Sydney Harbour sailing this weekend.

After a long six month battle, Windsurfing has made it back as an Olympic Event for the 2016 Olympics.
The ISAF Annual General Meeting, in a simple majority vote, decided to delete Kiteboarding and re-instate Windsurfing, which has been in the Olympics since 1984 as a Mens Event and since 1992 for Women. The ISAF AGM also voted to re-instate the RS: X as the class to be used in the 2016 Olympics.

The rogue decision of the ISAF Council at its Mid-Year Meeting was finally overturned by a vote of 51 to 40 in favour of the Windsurfer. There were 104 countries represented at the AGM (with a big fly-in representation for nearby Europe) with a large number of abstentions (believed to be 13) on the 2016 Olympics vote.

Vendee Globe 2012 - the fleet set sail on the weekend and the attrition has already started.
Marc Guillemot, the skipper of Safran hit an unknown object and broke his keel.

While Kito De Pavant’s Groupe Bel suffered serious damage when he was hit by a fishing trawler.
We will be covering the action 24x7 as it unfolds.

Sail-World will be in Malaysia for the eighth Monsoon Cup in early December. We’ve not missed one yet. This year’s event consists of one of the strongest fields ever, including three ISAF Match Racing World Champions. Eleven teams, including the top eight skippers on the Tour leaderboard, confirm their hard earned place in the season-ending Alpari World Match Racing Tour (AWMRT).

The top eight skippers who have confirmed their tickets, in order of the points collected thus far are Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team, Ian Williams (GBR) GAC Pindar, Keith Swinton (AUS) Black Swan Racing, Peter Gilmour (AUS) Yanmar Racing, Pierre Antoine Morvan (FRA) Vannes Agglo Sailing Team, Laurie Jury (NZL) Kiwi Match Sailing Team, Phil Robertson (NZL) Waka Racing, and Johnie Berntsson (SWE) Berntsson Sailing Team.
