The upturned hull of Closer to God - 2016 Airlie Beach Race Week Roger Wodson
2016 Airlie Beach Race Week - Racing will finish on a high note for the final day of racing at the Whitsunday Yacht Club’s 2016 Airlie Beach Race Week, as the sun is out again and officials say conditions will be near perfect with a 15 knot trade wind forecast for all race areas.

Some will not be racing today. WSC member, Mark Stafford will be trying to salvage his F32 trimaran, Closer to God, which turned turtle on the course yesterday. Although power boats came to his aid, they were unable to right the boat, so an anchor was used to keep the boat from wandering too far.

The trimaran was located this morning by the Cones. It had drifted just over one mile. Further efforts will be made today to recover Closer to God.

This evening, daily winners and the final winners of each division will be awarded at the official presentation. Some classes are all but decided, while others are going to be a fight to the finish.

Entertainment will follow the presentation at Whitsunday Sailing Club when the ever-popular Hillbilly Goats. Their colourful costumes, stories and songs distinguish ‘The Goats’ from the rest.
