The seven strong Volvo Ocean Race fleet are expected to be hit with strong winds, soon after nightfall on the second night of Leg 8

According to the latest projections from Predictwind the fleet will enjoy nice sailing conditions until just short of Cape Finisterre on the NW corner of Spain.

The wind will increase from 12kts to an average of 25kts at 2210hrs, and will stay in the high 20's and low 30's until a couple of hours before the finish, when they are expected to moderate.

A shifting breeze will require the competitors to tack as they sail up the Spanish coast. The wind will be out of the NE when it does increase, and the boats will head across the Bay of Biscay on starboard tack and expected to sail at 11-12kts in the strong winds.

Wind gusts can be up to a third more than the average speeds meaning windds of 25-40kts across the notorious Bay of Biscay
