From a sailing family with her brother Rob on MAPFRE doing his fourth Volvo Ocean Race, Team SCA's navigator Libby Greenhalgh has a Masters degree in Metrology and has been working closely with the British Sailing Team in recent years.
She says the race is all new and shiny as every leg is a new one for her.
While much of the race the boats have been in AIS range, Greenhalgh has not been afraid to make some big calls and break away from the pack. SCA lead thru the fleet through the Gibraltar Straits after what Greenhalgh described as logical move to the Spanish coast.
Asked about the matter of going the wrong way in a traffic separation zone, the subject of a Jury Hearing in Lisbon this afternoon Greenhalgh was straightforward - 'It was a genuine mistake'.
Looking ahead, the SCA team are obviously upbeat about their chances in the two upcoming short legs, they have a good short course record, their overall speed has increased significantly and they have been up with the pack for increasing periods in each leg.
Sail-World talk to Greenhalgh at the team base yesterday. Here is the interview.
