Volvo Ocean Race - 70% reconstruído! Team Vestas Wind perto do retorno

Volvo Ocean Race - Uma boa notícia para a equipe dinamarquesa. A reconstrução do Team Vestas Wind avança em 70% e o barco tem tudo para voltar à disputa da Volvo Ocean Race depois do incidente na segunda etapa do evento. O trabalho inicial foi realizado na metade do tempo normalmente necessário e animou os representantes da equipe azul e branca.

'O casco está totalmente pronto e novo. Trocamos mais da metade da estrutura interna. Constatamos que o barco é resistente e confiável, impressionante!', disse o chefe da equipe de terra do Team Vestas Wind, Neil Cox. 'A parte mais complicada foi seguir o regulamento da classe Volvo Ocean 65'.



O barco foi desmontado peça por peça antes de sua reconstrução com a ajuda de uma equipe de 24 especialistas de todo o mundo. Os equipamentos e a estrutura foram medidas, pesadas e verificadas pelo medidor oficial James Dadd.

Depois de unir casco com a parte superior do barco, é a vez da pintura, eletrônica, motor e sistemas hidráulicos.

'Todos fizeram um trabalho fantástico, demostrando uma dedicação total ao projeto. Tenho que agradecer a Persico. Não sei se outros estaleiros aceitariam um desafio como este', disse o comandante Chris Nicholson.

O transporte desde o norte da Itália até Lisboa poderia levar sete dias, mas existe a opção de seguir de ferry até a Espanha. O novo mastro, a quilha e o bulbo já serão levados a Portugal.

O barco encalhou em uma pequena ilha do Oceano Índico em 29 de novembro do ano passado. Ninguém se feriu, mas a equipe foi obrigada a abandonar as etapas seguintes.
