Volvo Ocean Race – Van Boxtel back as coach Team Brunel

by Team Brunel on 21 Oct 2017
Van Boxtel back as coach Team Brunel – Volvo Ocean Race Martin Keruzore / Volvo Ocean Race
Anje-Marijcke van Boxtel – psychologist and executive coach – will act again as the coach of Team Brunel. Appointing Van Boxtel fits the Team Brunel ideology where sharing knowledge and the development of both the individual and the team are central.

Bekking: The coach is a secret weapon
According to skipper Bouwe Bekking, Van Boxtel is one of the secret weapons of the Dutch flag-flying Team Brunel. Despite their short preparation, the team are now seen as one of the favourites for the overall win. Bekking: “ In the last race, I experienced how nice it is for a skipper to have a person with whom one can reflect. For the rest of the crew also, it’s nice to have someone that guides the development process.”

Van Boxtel: “There is not much difference between a boardroom and the cockpit of an ocean sailing boat.”
Coach Van Boxtel is excited about her return and looking forward to a new experience. Van Boxtel: “This team consists of very experienced professionals and young people from different disciplines, backgrounds, nationalities, expertise and gender. This combination demands a lot from both the skipper and the crew members. When they succeed in connecting those different perspectives, they’ll create an innovative, high performance team together. They will have the drive to improve and perform on a day to day basis. When you don’t learn during the race, others will pass you. The parallels with business life are endless.”
