by Trofeo Princesa Sofia on 28 Mar 2015
Markus Schwendtner Trofeo Princesa Sofia
One of the innovations of the 46th edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Iberostar is the addition of Kiteboarding. For IKA CEO, Markus Schwendtner this represents an important step towards the inclusion of Kiteboarding as an Olympic discipline in 2020.

“After trying for the last three years, we are finally happy to be racing in Palma alongside the Olympic classes and like them will gain points towards their ISAF rankings. The event organisers have worked closely with us to make it happen and contribute to a great regatta.”

The participants are all quite young with most aged between 17 and 21 years old. The favorites in the Men are Spanish riders Florian Trittel and Alejandro Climent. They are among the world top 5. Current European champion and vice world champion, Elena Kalinina (RUS) is the women favourite.

With 25 entries, men and women will compete in the same fleet until the medal race stage.

The kiteboarders will be the first to start on Saturday with medal races staged on Wednesday.
