Toyota NZ Optimist Nationals - Aussies win Open title, dominate Kiwis

No racing was possible in the Open Fleet on the final day of the 2016 Toyota Optimist NZ Nationals being staged at Kohimarama YC.

After sending the fleet on the water at around 10.00am and several attempted starts racing was called off for the day at 1.00pm

The results from Day 4 now stand as the final result with Australian sailor Archie Cropley taking the NZ Open title, Lachie Brewer (AUS) taking second place overall.

First New Zealand sailor and NZ champion is Henry Wilson from Murrays Bay SC. Gavin Ninnes (French Bay/Kohimarama YC) finished fourth and takes second place in the NZ Nationals.

Australian sailors dominated the regatta taking five of the top seven positions in the overall standings in the Open Fleet.

In the Green fleet two races were sailed closer to the Kohimarama shore. Overnight leader Zachary Fong (Wakatere), could not hold out Lucas Day and Lucy Leith (both from Murrays Bay SC with day easing away to a comfortable points win from Leith with Fong third overall.

The teams to represent New Zealand at various international Optimist regattas have been announced, based on points gained across the three scoring selection regattas held this season.
