Three Peaks Race responds to challenge
by Terry Travers on 8 Oct 2013
The organising committee of the annual Three Peaks Race, a unique short-handed sailing and endurance running event held in Tasmania each Easter for the last 25 years, has announced the 2014 race will be deferred by a year, with the next race to be held in 2015.

The quirky combination of mountain running and offshore sailing has resonated with the public, regularly drawing between five and eight thousand people to the start at Beauty Point, and a large spectator flotilla of pleasure craft that follows the yachts as they head for Bass Strait.
However the difficult economic times. particularly in Tasmania, has resulted in some sponsors unable to continue their support, and a reduction in potential entrants. Without the commitments of these long term supporters, the event could not be effectively run.
By announcing the decision early, and commencing the planning eighteen months out from the next race, the committee can ensure the event will be able to return invigorated in 2015.
