Outremer shipyard in La Grande Motte in the South of France have just launched the successor to the award winning Outremer 49, with the arrival of the new Outremer 51 which will be debuted at the Cannes boat show in France on the 10th of September.

The Outremer 49 was a ground breaking design when it was launched in 2009 and subsequently went onto win the European Yacht of the Year in 2010. The concept of the 49 remains, however the new 51 bring a raised level of refinement with a new interior design, external design and performance upgrades.

The interior design by Franck Darnet, responsible for the interior of the Outremer 5X that won European Yacht of the Year in 2013. The interior features a new array of luxury finishes, fittings and layouts that Franck Darnet has become renowned for, yet maintaining the focus on light weight fitout that Outremer insist upon. The new interior layout promotes more interior space thanks to clever new ergonomic configurations including a new galley, nav-station and saloon design.

Other features of the new 51 also include an extended hull with a larger boarding platform on the transom steps, new styling of the hull and coachroof and a new fiberglass hardtop over the cockpit.

The famous carbon tillers and helm seats that Outremer are famous for remain, as does the performance which continues to outrun the competitors thanks to a strict weight monitoring regime throughout the manufacturing process that has the Outremer 51 weighing in at just 10 ton.

The entire boat features closed cell foam core, while resin infusion is applied throughout the fiberglassing process to ensure weight savings and rigidity are maintained. Optional carbon fiber bulkheads are offered, as are carbon rotating rigs for those seeking pure performance. Many are happy with the 10 plus knot performance already achievable on the standard Outremer 51 package.

Multihull Central’s Managing Director, Brent Vaughan, is excited by the new launch, 'After sailing the Outremer 49 at the Outremer Cup and feeling first hand the acceleration and speed that a very comfortable cruising boat can offer, the Outremer 51 promises to be a nice refinement of this concept and one that experienced sailors will appreciate'.

'We are pleased to have sold the original Outremer 49 to an Australian customer recently and are looking forward to having this iconic boat on display soon at our Sydney headquarters in Rozelle Bay alongside a fleet of other multihulls on display every day.'

'Most Outremers are sold to couples and families who use their boats to cruise around the world, so it’s nice to have a boat in Sydney for a while to show other Australian customers the true pedigree of this design, before the boat goes cruising again with its new Australian owners'.

The new Outremer 51 starts from approx. A$895,000 ex factory in La Grande Motte in France (excluding GST). Multihull Central offer packages for local pick up and delivery in France for a once in a lifetime cruise back to Australia, or alternatively shipping to Australia and a special demo boat package available.

Securely moored to the quay, or cast adrift?

However, when it comes to your insurer, you kind of expect that they’re going to be as bound to you as the standing rigging is to the mast, the ring frames to the hull, or the engine mounts to the runners, and the propellers to the shafts, skegs and cutlass bearings. Whom would you rather be insured with?

Thirteenth Blog from on board Perie Banou II
Well I am anchored off Jamestown Saint Helena. Good place to be. So it is. Jon is at St Helena in the Atlantic - British ilse after some of the French ones he has been to. He's off seeing the island and catching up with his friends from the little Swarbrick, Liberdade. As usual, full of beans and living life, remembering heaps and always factual, given how much he reads on board. Yet another great tale, so dive right in...

Jon's steady progress sees him arrives in St Helena in the South Atlantic I am on the ocean as I type. By the time you read I should be tied to a mooring Jamestown, British island of Saint Helena, South Atlantic. Since last writing it has been mild. Wind behind pushing me. My mainsail - always 1 reef & wee jib. Progress good and comfortable. One can get squalls, often more to the west than where I am. Night time squalls.
