The Lexus Australian Championship for International Etchells Class

by Jeremy Press on 14 Jan 2001
Great Weather, Great Sailing,

10 to 14knts SE in race 1, with 14 to 20knts SE in Race 2.

Grant Warrington wins heat 1 from Jake Gunther and Nick Rogers, with John Bertrand winning
heat 2 from Gary Sheard and Andrew Hunn after Nick Rogers was DSQ'd as a result of a
protest after finishing second Grant Warrington now leads series after two heats from John
Bertrand and Andrew Hunn, (discards yet to be considered).

See results page for detailed results

There are 26 entries for the championships, including leading names such as John Bertrand,
Andrew Hunn, Nick Rogers, Ian Johnson, Glenn Tucker, Gary Sheard and Grant Warrington. It
was good to see Grant do the Sydney Hobart with 'Wild Thing', just so he could use the boat
as somewhere to stay in Hobart for the Lexus Nationals. We also have Dick Hodgson, a
regular Etchells competitor in the USA, who has travelled from Rhode Island in the USA to
participate.

Many of the entries have already checked out the course and have agreed with the locals that
the Derwent represents one of the best Etchells sailing location in the world.
