Tasmanian crew win Youth Match Racing Championships

by Shane Smith on 7 Sep 2010
Noye defeats Reece in race 1 of finals - Australian Youth Match Racing Championships Shane Smith
Elliot Noye and crew members Edward Snowball, Tom Ransley and Rowan Clark have taken out the 2010 Australian Youth Match Racing Championships hosted by Southport Yacht Club.

The crew representing Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania put together two very strong performances in the round robin stages before winning the final 2 - 0 over Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron's Jordan Reece.

In the first race Noye had the favoured starting position and controlled the race to win by 14 seconds. Race two was a different story with Reece holding good position and winning two penalty's on the Tasmanian's. The race was extremely tight but Noye managed to position himself perfectly to wipe of the outstanding penalty's and go on to win the race and series.

In the petit final CYCA's Jay Griffin won the best of three series 2 - 0 over the local Joel Turner. Turner along with his team John Bucknall, Chris Percy and William Bates were competiting in only their second match racing event improving each day to make the finals. In the end Griffin's team of Ted Hackney, Will Parker and Tim Forbes Smith were too strong in the pre start making it difficult for Turners team to overcome.

Southport Yacht Club would like to thank all of the umpires, race officials and volunteers for their assistance and the sponsors Mitsubishi Electric, Coolco, SYC Associates, Evolution Sails, Harken and Dimension Polyant for thier support.
