Audi Australian IRC Ocean racing champion Kai Timm will have a limited opportunity to dry out his deck shoes over the next few months.

The Team Noosa Youth Sail coach has a full racing log of commitments with OceanBuro Performance sailing business partner Rod Jones starting with the defence of their 2007 class win in Audi Sydney to Gold Coast race on Saturday July 26.

This physically demanding and tactically testing coastal classic will be the first full scale ocean race for the exciting new Rod Jones skippered Archambault 40 Alegria which has also been entered in the 348 n/ml Brisbane to Great Keppel Island Race on August 2 followed by the 2008 Audi Hamilton Island Race Week from August 23-30.

The new Alegria a slightly larger version of the A35 which Rod Jones and his crew of Sunshine Coast sailors combined to outsail Australia’s best blue water racing combinations to win the 2007 Australian IRC offshore championship promises to be an equally impressive performer.

Meanwhile Kai Timm will step up his personal fitness and training program in preparation to represent Australia at the inaugural Dart SB3 sports boat World championship to be hosted on the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire (Ireland) in late September.

During this event Kai Timm will race against a high profile fleet with the Dart SB3 World series attracting 120 entries from 12 countries including former Olympic representatives and World champions from Europe and America.
Timm will proudly sail under the Australian ‘battle flag’ while also promoting the cause for class officials to consider hosting a World championship ‘down under’ at Geelong, Mooloolaba or Airlie Beach in the near future.

This strict art form of one-design fleet and match racing has continued to gain significant growth since the class made its Australian debut in the Melbourne Docklands and Skandia Geelong Race Week regattas last January.

Since then Interest in Australia has continued to spiral with nominations accepted for the North Queensland championship to be raced in conjunction with the Meridien Marinas Race Week at Airlie Beach from August 14-21 followed by the Queensland fleet championship at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in late November.

“There are also limited charter opportunities for the International Sail Brisbane regatta and the Australian championship which will be a feature event at Skandia Geelong Race Week”. Kai Timm said.

The Dart SB3 now officially recognised as an International class will continue to establish a strong following with Queensland’s talented Youth sailors being involved with the Tasqua sponsored Youth match racing programme at the Mooloolaba Dinghy Sailing Club.

Noosa’s Queensland Olympic Laser dinghy champion Ryan Palk and the Australian Optimist Dinghy champion Shelly White have been selected in the OceanBuro Performance Sailing Youth Squad following their excellent results in the recent Audi Queensland SB3 Match Racing championships held off Mooloolaba last month.

Shelly White (15) who has valued the opportunity of leaning to sail on the Mooloolah River heads off to Turkey later this month to represent Australia in the World Optimist championship and then will prepare to match her male rivals for a chance to win the Australian Sabot Championship at Airlie Beach in early January.
