Spirit of Adventure prepares for two ocean races

by Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges on 22 Mar 2014 Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges is currently preparing Spirit of Adventure VO 60 for the return voyage from Antigua to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Leaving Jolly Harbor, Antigua on May 7th, the Volvo 60 Spirit of Adventure will sail north 1700 nm to the home port of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Two offshore training positions are available for this offshore adventure that includes extensive training with round the world skipper Chris Stanmore-Major prior to departure.

In June, the Volvo 60 will make an offshore training run to Bermuda and back with a complement of offshore sailors who want to experience a truly exceptional sailing adventure. The 727 nm between Bermuda and Lunenburg is considered one of the most technical pieces of ocean on the planet, with the warm waters of the Gulf Stream complicating the route in an aggressive manner. Three crew positions are available for this offshore adventure.

Spirit of Canada Ocean Challenges announces that the Volvo 60 will compete in two iconic offshore racing events in 2014.

The first edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race will set off from Puerto Calero, Lanzarote; Canary Islands and finish in Port Louis Marina in St George's, the capital of Grenada after 2800 nm of beautiful downwind trade wind sailing. The Caribbean Island of Grenada is on the southern tip of the chain of islands known as the Windward Isles and the gateway to the stunning cruising area of the Grenadines. The chain of over 600 islands extends between Grenada in the south and St Vincent to the north.

The RORC racing calendar attracts sailors from all over the world to compete during the season in over 20 races and comprises a series of highly competitive inshore and offshore IRC Rated events throughout the year. The new RORC Transatlantic Race will be the longest and final race in 2014. It follows a season of regular RORC races as well as the international Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race and Brewin Dolphin Commodores' Cup.

The Route Halifax Saint-Pierre Race 2014 is a world-class ocean race held every two years (opposite the Marblehead - Halifax race) from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, France off the beautiful coastal of Newfoundland.
