Spirit excels with Doyle Sails at EnviroPacific Inner Spring Regatta

by Doyle Sails Lake Macquarie on 3 Sep 2014
NCYC Inner Spring Regatta Carsten Kapinkski
The annual EnviroPacific Inner Spring offshore regatta was held by Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club over this past weekend 30-31 August. A fleet of 21 boats entered in IRC, ORCi and PHS divisions.

The Reichel Pugh 36 'Spirit', owned and helmed by Ian Bower from Lake Macquarie Yacht Club, was the outstanding yacht of the series. With tactician Peter McNeill from the Doyle Lake Macquarie loft calling the shots, 'Spirit' won both the IRC and PHS in division one. 'Spirit' has a full inventory of Doyle Sails supplied by McNeill’s loft including a Stratis ICE mainsail and Stratis ICE headsails.

Runner up in IRC, ORCi and PHS division one was Robert Alder's Cookson 12 'Occasional Course Language One' which also has a full set of Doyle Sails. Roger Hickman sailed his Farr 43 'Wild Rose' to third in ORCi and fourth in IRC division one. 'Wild Rose' is powered by Doyle Stratis Sails as well.

Hickman, a veteran of 37 Sydney - Hobart races, made the trip to Newcastle to sail on the same race track where he impressively won Division three of the IRC Australian Championship held at Easter this year. 'Spirit' was also on the podium with 'Wild Rose' in that regatta, taking third place in the same division.

Another boat carrying a full set of Doyle Lake Macquarie sails to win their division was the Tim Gleeson owned Beneteau 36.7 'Summer Salt' which took out IRC division two and was runner up in PHS division two.

Also posting an excellent result was the Farr 40 'Long Time Dead', owned by Matt Fensom from EnviroPacific, the regatta sponsor. Although well under manned with a crew of only five, Fensom still managed to gain fifth place in IRC division one. This boat was sporting a new Doyle Lake Macquarie A2 spinnaker on the downwind legs.
