by John Keelty/ Sail-World Cruising on 4 Nov 2012
Cruise to Hobart in 2013 SW
Another great seminar evening in Sydney to build your cruising skills. 'A Pilot Guide to Cruising to Hobart' is the subject for the information evening at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA)next Tuesday on 6th November. It will be vitally useful for all boat owners and crew who cruise the east coast and Tasmania, including those planning to join the Hobart 2013 Rendezvous cruise in January and February.

The seminar starts at 6.30pm, the address is 1 New Beach Road, Darling Point, and it's free so bring the whole crew!

The presenters for the evening are:

Marius Coomans
the founder of Skipr.net will explain how to make use of the internet while cruising for the posting of positions and reports. Go to http://skipr.net/wp/where-is/hobart-2013-cruise/ for a preview. There will be advice on the best ways to connect available on the evening.

Rob Starkey the author of 'Rob's Passage Planner' on how plan your east coast cruise and to Hobart in particular. Rob will have copies of his Passage Planner available on the night and you can preview the book at http://skipr.net/goodies/robs-passage-planner/

Frank Walker will discuss some of the ways cruisers can combine available weather information with their passage plan. Weather routing is used extensively by the racing fleet and is now increasingly accessible and a great tool for cruising. Frank will demonstrate the use of Predictwind to accurately plan the best routes, destinations and anchorages for your cruise. Have a look at how it works at http://www.predictwind.com/what-predictwind-forecast/cruising/

Denis Doyle is co-ordinating the evening. Denis is currently preparing his and Lynne's new Sextant, an Xc42, to head south for Hobart 2013 for 6 to 8 weeks of cruising in the waters of Tasmania.

All attendees are encouraged to plan to stay for dinner at the bistro following to exchange ideas and forge plans with other Cruisers. Dinner will be available in the downstairs Bistro after the presentation as will conversations with other cruisers about their plans for sailing to Hobart.

The key characteristics of the Hobart 2013 :
Rendezvous Cruise are that boats may depart whenever they decide but there is a designated arrival time into Hobart, no later than 1200 on Thursday 7th February.

The timing is set to allow boats and crews to participate in the Australian Wooden Boat Festival 8 - 11 February and the Van Diemens Land Circumnavigation Cruise which starts on the 13th February.
