Simple Boat Step makes it easy to step from dock to deck

by Des Ryan on 8 Apr 2014
Boat Step - smart, useful and very easy to stow... SW
When I bought my first boat the owner had left a lot of 'rubbish' on board. Gradually, as I cleared out the boat, I found some quite miraculous gadgets and among the gear was a boat step, primitively constructed out of a plank of wood which ingeniously latched to the gunwale of the boat, enabling easy stepping from wharf to deck.

Now a couple of clever Australian inventors have made a similar, but much smarter version, and it's for sale.

Garry and Debbie Holder, members of Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) have already supplied several of these to members of their club, with great success.

The purchasers have found them very useful, needing little space to stow, and strong and sturdy to use.

The step is from marine board, measuring 550mm by 245mm, with a fender strip on the back edge to protect the boat.
It is reinforced on the underside, non slip is fitted to the upside, and weighs only 4kg.
It fastens with easy-to-use snap hooks.
The rope is 4mm Dyneena SK75, with a 1250kg breaking strain.
The box size it comes in is 56cm x 28cm x 10cm
