Sanctuary Cove Int’l Boat Show - Navigation and security drones launch

by Sarah Staerk on 6 May 2015 2015 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show - People looking for the latest gadgets for their yacht will have the opportunity to consult the experts, with UAS Services Australia launching its enterprise, specialising in drones, at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS).

These remote controlled low-flying drones are not just the ultimate “big boys’ toy”, they have a myriad of applications, from fun, photography, reconnaissance, security and navigation.

UASSA Director, Peter Blake will be exhibiting just a few models that are available on the market, as well as a video demonstrating their uses. Peter has travelled the world researching and flying the most modern and advanced aircraft and has teamed up with drone and security experts to provide the most up to date information on a range of aircraft and capabilities.

Also on hand to field questions and explain the “ins and outs” of working with these high-tech tools will be John Hildebrand from Aerial HotShots, a licensed drone operator that uses drones in its photography work.

“It’s not just boys and their toys, drones with cameras can provide a unique low level aerial perspective never before possible,” says John. “When people are looking for a closer view than 1,000-feet, drones can bring you images from 400-feet and lower close in views.

“In the case of boats, owners can use drones for looking around headlands to bays or moorings, documenting their voyages, filming marine life, their own boat and friends onboard. There is no end of uses really.”

UASSA Director, Peter Blake, a veteran of 15 years’ experience with drones, has worked with the FBI, US Customs and Border Patrol, the Royal Canadian Mountain Police and in the UK with the Ministry of Defence.

He says there are so many variables in choosing a drone, it pays to use a consultant to source one to suit your needs.

“The drones can range in price from $300 to $1 million, depending on your interests and applications, and with such a vast difference in quality and capabilities, going through a consultant company is the best solution. We match the right drone to the right purpose, and make sure people are getting quality for money. Also, we make sure people are acting within the law wherever they are in the world. There are strict conditions for use in Australia and fines associated with improper use.”

Peter, who has worked all over the world, has gleaned a good knowledge of manufacturers and their operations, pricing and what they offer to the public.

“At the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, we are confident of building relationships with the yachting market who would be interested in how drones can enhance their boating experience. We have a close working relationship with Crew Pacific who manage superyacht crewing, recruitment and training, so we have already had a good experience with the superyacht market. We hope to achieve exposure with the right market here as well and demonstrate that drones are available, cost-effective and extremely safe.”

Running 21 to 24 May 2015, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show attracts more than 40,000 visitors to a spectacular showcase of more than 500 boats and marine products across four days.
