As the Queensland Season of Sailing continues, we bring you the latest from Hamilton Island.

On the water yesterday we saw some sensational sailing by Marcus Blackmore´s TP52 Hooligan team, when they sailed around Grant Wharington´s 100 footer Wild Thing and Ernesto Bertarelli´s Alinghi-Wild Oats X.

Malcolm Page, the dual Olympic Gold Medallist and tactician aboard Hooligan commented 'Marcus obviously runs a very campaign, with two Hamilton Island titles in a row. This is my first time on board with him if we don’t win we know who to blame. But we seem to be doing OK. We have the basics - a good start and get that first shift and go the right way. '

And that they are certainly doing.

While we are bringing you the latest news from San Francisco, next up for the Sail-World local team, its on the road again its Sail Townsville, an expansion of Magnetic Island Race Week, with a bunch of off the beach dinghies and kites.

Interesting that the seventh annual SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week has held its big boat numbers, possibly even lifting them while Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week in its 24th year and Audi Hamilton Island Race Week in their 30th year, are well off their peaks of a few years ago.

We suspect above all that a new venue, new sailing water are the driving force, tho it might be the midweek Cane Toad Races?

Certainly Bob Steel has been attracted by the later, he recently explained that he expected to win back the cost of his Magnetic campaign betting on the Toads. Well he did seem serious. But then he always does until the smile arrives.

…and don’t call me Shirley!
Ah yes! It could only be the truly inimitable Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) from Airplane! Ah yes! It could only be the truly inimitable Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) from Airplane! (And that takes us all the way back to 1980 – believe it or not.) You know the lines; it’s when Ted Striker says, “Surely you cannot be serious?” To which Rumack then replies, “I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley!”

Play Nicely
Nothing takes one’s mind off everything else with anywhere near the same sort of aplomb. It has been really (read really, really, really) good to get some consistent racing done once more. Nothing takes one’s mind off everything else with anywhere near the same sort of aplomb. Explaining how four hours of joy from deep concentration on wind, tide, trim, and your competition to non-sailors, often just leaves them with a glaze over the face.

Delivery
Just making sure no one saw Deliverance as the headline. There’ll be no banjos and canoe trips here, thank you. Just making sure no one saw Deliverance as the headline. There’ll be no banjos and canoe trips here, thank you. Moreover, it was a combination of the time of year, some of the phone calls I had taken over the weekend, and the 20 hours I had put in behind the wheel that l converged together to deliver me to this point. (Absolutely fully intended, in case anyone was wondering).

The door’s been flung open – again
Now whether it was the Champagne or something far more ethereal, there is the chance that sailing gets sexier for Tokyo Now whether it was the Champagne or something far more ethereal, there is the chance that sailing may get sexier for Tokyo 2020. Yes, the proverbial door has been cast ajar before, often to much fanfare, and not that much has been achieved.

Special because there are to be no specials
Special because there are to be no specials There can be no doubt that Audi Hamilton Island Race Week has become what it is today, at least in a volume sense, because of all the cruising boats attending. The brand that has arguably tapped that along the most has been Beneteau. In some years, not too long ago at all, the French brand amounted to almost 50% of the fleet!

Spectacular as it is amazing
Well that pretty much sums up the next round of Audi Hamilton Island Race Week from August 20, 2016. Well that pretty much sums up the next round of Audi Hamilton Island Race Week from August 20, 2016. The spectacular result of a record 252 boats sailing around in the amazing location of the Whitsunday Islands only needs this said – ‘Good Luck’ to all and ‘Well Done’ for making the commitment to get there and be part of it.

Younglings
I wanted to make sure that the efforts of Tom Crockett and Harry Morton got as much attention as I could muster. Right. Straight into it and I am not out to be Yoda. Maybe more like Mel Brooks’ version. Yet with all the goings on, even more so that Rio has now begun, I wanted to make sure that the efforts of Tom Crockett and Harry Morton got as much attention as I could muster.

So cool it makes black look daggy…
Last week it was all about warming up. Now it is very cool, both on the mercury and tech meters. Last week it was all about warming up. Now it is very cool, both on the mercury and tech meters. Yes, the super-cool nights in Sydney were brightened a lot by the gleamingly sunny days, but you’d have to think that the coolest bit of kit going around at the Sydney International Boat Show was the Garmin gear that Jason Browne and his team had on display.

Just make it all about the gold…
It was certainly the title that got me thinking about said precious metal. It was certainly the title that got me thinking about said precious metal. The email simply said, ‘Unlocking the potential of the Broadwater through sport.’ I had been in and out of the Gold Coast Seaway a few times in the last couple of months, with the last the most memorable. You see Maverick had decided to buzz the tower, so to speak.
