As the Queensland Season of Sailing continues, we bring you the latest from Hamilton Island.

On the water yesterday we saw some sensational sailing by Marcus Blackmore´s TP52 Hooligan team, when they sailed around Grant Wharington´s 100 footer Wild Thing and Ernesto Bertarelli´s Alinghi-Wild Oats X.

Malcolm Page, the dual Olympic Gold Medallist and tactician aboard Hooligan commented 'Marcus obviously runs a very campaign, with two Hamilton Island titles in a row. This is my first time on board with him if we don’t win we know who to blame. But we seem to be doing OK. We have the basics - a good start and get that first shift and go the right way. '

And that they are certainly doing.

While we are bringing you the latest news from San Francisco, next up for the Sail-World local team, its on the road again its Sail Townsville, an expansion of Magnetic Island Race Week, with a bunch of off the beach dinghies and kites.

Interesting that the seventh annual SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week has held its big boat numbers, possibly even lifting them while Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week in its 24th year and Audi Hamilton Island Race Week in their 30th year, are well off their peaks of a few years ago.

We suspect above all that a new venue, new sailing water are the driving force, tho it might be the midweek Cane Toad Races?

Certainly Bob Steel has been attracted by the later, he recently explained that he expected to win back the cost of his Magnetic campaign betting on the Toads. Well he did seem serious. But then he always does until the smile arrives.

Just make it all about the gold…
It was certainly the title that got me thinking about said precious metal. It was certainly the title that got me thinking about said precious metal. The email simply said, ‘Unlocking the potential of the Broadwater through sport.’ I had been in and out of the Gold Coast Seaway a few times in the last couple of months, with the last the most memorable. You see Maverick had decided to buzz the tower, so to speak.

Warming Up
If you’re down South or out West, you could be thinking this is going to be about the weather. If you’re down South or out West, you could be thinking this is going to be about the weather. After all, the Winter solstice is long gone and the hours of daylight are steadily increasing, so it sounds like a plan. Writing this from the tropics makes those words seem almost surreal, but alas there is no climate change to be talked of here.

Numbers Game
Most things in yachting are, of course... Cost, size, IRC certificate, number of crew, and so on. Most things in yachting are, of course... Cost, size, IRC certificate, number of crew, bearing and range to mark, polars, number of kites, headsails, draft, displacement, I, J, P and E, bulb weight, bulb dimensions and so on. And then obviously, the devil is ALWAYS in the detail.

Brawn v Brain? The Bar or The Room?
Interesting questions and can they possibly be linked in any way. Interesting questions and can they possibly be linked in any way. Is it just the one connection, or could there indeed be several ways to address this conundrum? Well the route of the answer could be SailX, the online inshore racing game.

Welcome to Hell
It is not Acca/Dacca’s new album or the title of their next world tour we talk of Wow. But it is not Acca/Dacca’s new album or the title of their next world tour we talk of. We’ve already had an assortment of brilliant academics, economists, statesmen and football stars tell us. Now it is the local police force’s turn. Stay away from Rio. That’s kind of a pretty serious indictment, especially when they did it on their own time.
