Sail Port Stephens - Huge success for Soldiers Point Sailing School

by Lue Fagan on 18 Apr 2013
Sail Port Stephens 2013 - Darrell Barnett CMM Marina Manager congratulating winner Will Dunn Lue Fagan
Sail Port Stephens 2013 is currently underway. Big congratulations to William Dunn from Medowie sailing an Optimist, for taking out first place in the Mixed Class (Opti, Sabot, Laser, Flying 11) at the Junior Sailing Regatta, part of Sail Port Stephens. Will was one of the first students at the Soldiers Point Sailing School and will move on to complete his Basic Skills 2 Certificate in the near future. It was Wills first competition and with his first prize of a great trophy and a once in a lifetime experience of a lunch and sail on Wild Oats X in Pittwater, no doubt it won’t be his last.

Another big congratulations for Sailing School student William Rae, for his third placing in the Mixed Class sailing a Laser.
Soldiers Point Marina was a joint sponsor for the junior regatta – again demonstrating their commitment in developing and nurturing a love of the water and sailing for our young people. Soldiers Point Marina established Soldiers Point Sailing School in 2011 and they provide free weekly sailing lessons to students from the two local secondary schools.

'It was wonderful to see 26 young sailors from various parts of NSW out on our magnificent waterways, many of them competing for the first time but all enjoying the experience' said Soldiers Point Marina Manager Mr Darrell Barnett.
Although currently in New Zealand for a few days, Sailing School Chief Instructor Graham Oborn has kept a close eye on his charges in the regatta with emails, phone calls and photos travelling thick and fast across the Tasman.

Congratulations to the Corlette Point Sailing Club and the Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club for a well organised event.
