Fourteen year old Edwin Delaat was presented with the Academy Sailor of the Year 2010 award at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club on Saturday 26th June 2010. Edwin Delaat from Oratia, Waitakere, who is a pupil at Liston College, was presented with the award for his courage, determination and passion for the sport and the club.

Edwin is infatuated with sailing. He is an extraordinary positive young individual with a huge amount of talent. Edwin has an interesting sailing resume from dingy sailing success to inshore keelboat racing to offshore ocean racing.

Recently he added sailing in the Auckland to Denarua Ocean Race 2010 to his tally. Last year Edwin was RAYC Optimst Champion 2009 and runner up in 2008 RAYC Championship with third place in 2007.

Earlier this year he became second in the RAYC 420 Club Championships.

Edwin skippered his beloved Farr 727 Crac-A-Jac in two National Farr 727 Championships in 2009 and 2010.
He competed in the SSANZ Triple Series 2009 and has entered for 2010.

In 2008 he was the youngest entrant in the HSBC Coastal Classic and skippered Crac-A-Jac in the HSBC Coastal Classic 2009.

Edwin Delaat has been involved in many other major sailing events such as the Round White Island Ocean Race, Auckland Anniversary Regatta, Gold Cup Series, Classic Yacht Regatta, Millennium Cup 2009, NZ Marine Cup 2010 and more.
