Replay of the start of the 2014 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race
The fleet is expected to experience fresh to strong headwinds for the start and first 24 hours, although winds will moderate towards the end of this period. The winds will start from a SE direction, before moving through to the SW and then swinging west about 30 hours into the race. In the latter stages of the race the winds will lighten and swing astern.
Comanche set a new record time of 4minutes 35 seconds to get to first turning mark at Sydney Heads.
Although the winner is expected to finish in less than two days, they will be outside the race record of 1day and 18 hours.
Main interest for mainstream fans is expected to be the performance of five supermaxis, with three Australian owned boats competing against two new US supermaxis.
