Rolex Farr 40 Worlds, Nervous Last Moments in Transfusion's Win

Rolex Farr 40 Worlds - Crosbie Lorimer was out on the water with some of Australia's top yachting photographers to shoot the last day of the Rolex Farr 40 World Championships off Sydney Heads yesterday.

Guido Belgiorno-Nettis and his crew aboard Transfusion, including top tactician John Kostecki, provided plenty of spectacle in their last day arm-wrestle with the 2010 World Champions aboard Nerone.

As the fleet approached the finish line of the last race there was still some uncertainty aboard the media boat as to whether Transfusion had done enough to regain the points she needed to take the championship. Indeed the same uncertainty was evident aboard Transfusion as she crossed the finish line in second place.

For several minutes the Transfusion crew was to be seen facing aft with hands on heads, counting boats as Nerone neared the line, still threatening to make up the last two places she needed to win, after her extraordinary recovery from a start line disaster in which she had been buried deep in the second row.

John Kostecki, who has been the tactician on three Farr 40 World Championship boats kept his cool, steering the boat and checking his mobile for messages as the team watched anxiously with Nerone nearing the line.

Finally it was evident that Transfusion had done enough to avenge their final race loss to Nerone last year and the celebrations broke out.

Here are some of Crosbie's images of the 2011 World Champions in action during the final day.
