Regional News from Sail-World on Twitter

by Brendan Maxwell on 10 Nov 2009
Sail-World,com now on Twitter SW
Sail-World.com, the largest online marine news network in the world is now delivering regional news on Twitter.

Publisher Rob Kothe said today ‘Now sailors can get an exciting mix of Sail-World local news and major international news via local Twitter feeds, rather than getting more sailing news than they can possible handle via a one size fits all world news channel.’

We recommend our Twitter followers change to local news here

USA SailWorld USA | twitter.com/sailworldusa

While marine magazine struggle to bring sailing news to their print audience within a month, or two or even three, immediate local news just became even more so as Sail-World.com, the largest online marine network, fine tunes its Twitter service.

Twitter is a free microblogging or messaging service that enables its users to send and read messages – called tweets.

While Twitter started more as a social networking tool, answering the question, ‘What am I doing?’ it has rapidly morphed into an information network.

And the new site strapline has become ‘Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.’

Tweets are text based SMS style posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the generators profile page, (in our case www.twitter.com/sailworldnews ) and delivered to the subscribers as text (SMS) on their mobile phones.

The 140 character limit on message length was initially set for compatibility with SMS messaging.

As Sail-World.com, along with Powerboat-World.com and MarineBusiness-World.com publishes close to 1500 news items each month, an average of 50 each day, its output of tweets, notification of the latest story is significant.

Because of our overall flow of news, we have now split our tweets into country/region/site output, to ensure our audience receives the best and freshest most relevant information possible, rather than world-wide content.

Additionally our editors around the world have the ability to add additional tweets, alerting our audience to breaking news.

As the Sail-World team is involved with many events, building websites for many World and National Championships and major regattas we will also be able to provide the same Twitter facility for those events and you will see this happening over the coming months.
