Regata teste simula situações de risco na Volvo Ocean Race

Os sete barcos disputam uma prova de dois dias que não vale pontos. A regra é se adequar aos procedimentos de segurança e simular crises a bordo.

As equipes da Volvo Ocean Race terão um desafio especial: a chamada Leg Zero - em português Perna Zero. O objetivo da regata, com duração de dois dias, será testar todos os protocolos de segurança. Um dos procedimentos será o famoso 'homem ao mar' para simular um acidente durante a prova. A regata sairá de Alicante até Palma de Maiorca. A largada será nesta sexta-feira (12) e terá 330 milhas de distância.

'A Leg Zero é vital para a organização e para as equipes', explicou o diretor de regata, Jack Lloyd. 'A segurança é primordial para nós. Por isso queremos garantir que todas as equipes saibam exatamente o que fazer se as coisas derem errado, como por exemplo, se alguém cair no mar'.

Talvez esse seja o maior medo dos velejadores. O chefe de controle da Volvo Ocean Race relatou os maiores dramas. 'As correntes em algumas partes do mundo são de 7 metros por segundo. Além disso, a temperatura da água em lugares como o sul da Índia não excede 5 graus causando a morte por hipotermia em 12 minutos'.


Os velejadores também aprovaram a iniciativa. 'Será um teste muito importante para nós e uma oportunidade de melhorar e trabalhar em algumas coisas com apenas semanas antes do início da Volvo Ocean Race. A Leg Zero é uma prova real', falou o italiano Alberto Bolzan, do Team Alvimedica.
