RYCV retains the Association Cup for 2010

by David Seaman on 29 Mar 2010
Commodore Tony Spencer & Club Captain David Ellis with the Association Cup - Association Cup 2010, Melbourne Craig Knell
The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria retains the Association Cup. This event, first sailed for in 1907, is the two day interclub event that finishes the season on Port Phillip. RYCV had a great result, winning by a wide margin. The RYCV team ranged from the 55' Living Doll, to Footloose, a Nolex 25. Tony Spencer, RYCV Commodore, who sailed his Adams 10, Serious Yahoo in the event, was extremely happy with the result.

When asked the reason for such a good result, Tony said that team selection (done by the Club Captain, Dave Ellis) and team attitude was the key. 'We raced as a team, protected each other and were aware of what had to be done. Dave Ellis did a great job in team selection and I was happy to be selected to race for my club. Being Commodore did not give me automatic entry, I had to earn it.'

The event, held over two days, comprised four races. In IRC A, Living Doll took line honors in every race, and backed that up by being the top rated IRC A boat. Second was the Adams 10 Executive Decision and third Scarlett Runner from SYC.

In AMS A, Just A Minor Hickup from RBYC was the best performed, from Wake and Swordfish Trombone, both from RYCV.

IRC B saw Dave Ellis in Surprise (no surprise there!) taking first place, from Top Gun and Salamander (RMYS).

AMS B saw Footloose, the little Noelex 25 take first, followed by Tony Spencer's Serious Yahoo and Upbeat(SYC).
