Provisioning - bananas

Want to take BANANAS on a cruise, but they don’t keep? Here’s a tip I learned from a Maldivian banana grower, where they have millions of bananas in the season, and none for the rest of the year. Obtain, the very greenest bananas you can. Bright green, if possible. Then hang them in the cockpit, in the shade, but very important, not in the cabin. Every day, water them – yes, just like the garden. They will STAY GREEN. When you want ripe bananas, just break off a hand, get a bucket of salt water, and dunk the green hand of bananas in the water, leaving there for about 5 minutes. Remove them, take them below, wait 24 hours, and the bananas will be bright yellow and ready for eating.
