Phil Briggs sailing his Sabre Dinghy At Cleveland ANNE MUSSETT
Longtime Member and Life Member of Queensland's Cleveland Yacht Club 'Phil Briggs' will turn 100 on 23rd February, 2015.
Phil started sailing as a teenager in 12 foot skiffs and has sailed in National and International Championships, he joined Cleveland Yacht Club in the late 80's and sailed MG's before retiring into Sabres.
The Queensland Sabre Association also made him a 'Life Member' and he remained active sailing his sabre dinghy till he was 95.
Over the years Phil has had many Newspaper articles done about him and also several Television appearances on and off the water, he is known as the oldest single handed dinghy sailor in Australia.
During Phil's sailing career teaching and encourgaging children to sail has been a top priority of his and even though he is not sailing now, he still thinks of ways to promote the sport.
Phil quite often drives (yes I said 'drives') down to Cleveland Yacht Club to check out what's happening at the Club, you often find him clearing debris off the ramp, so keeps active on land now instead of the water.
