Pedro Blanco Race 2014 - Tesla has been announced as the ‘Presenting Sponsor’ for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Pedro Blanco Race taking place on the weekend of 22 and 23 March 2014 - an event considered to be the ideal preparation for the Rolex China Sea Race scheduled to start in Hong Kong on 16 April 2014.

The Pedro Blanco Race is a Category three offshore race around Pedro Blanco Rock, which lies east of Hong Kong. Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Commodore, Joachim Isler says this is 'a challenging, but fun race, being a ‘short’ 100nm overnight race, ideally suited to train and trial crew, equipment and yachts right before the crossing of the South China Sea in April.'

Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a group of intrepid Silicon Valley engineers who set out to prove that electric vehicles 'could be awesome'. Tesla’s batteries and powertrains help to lessen global dependence on petroleum-based transportation and drive down the cost of electric vehicles. By cooperating with other car manufacturers, Tesla hopes to put more electric cars on the road.

'Our partnership with Tesla is ideal as their company’s ethos is consistent with the ‘green’ philosophy of sailing. Sailing is probably the most sustainable and renewable way to travel, and I can think of no other brand at the moment that is at the forefront of green technology packaged into a performance vehicle' said Torrey Dorsey, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Corporate & International Partnerships Manager.
