Managing Director of North Sails Australia, Michael Coxon, and the principal of Melbourne’s North Sails loft, veteran yachtsman Ross Lloyd, have jointly announced the merger of the Melbourne operations into North Sails Australia and the signing of Noel 'Nitro' Drennan.

'The two companies already work closely together sharing design and manufacturing resources. After 35 years in sail making, Ross is planning to retire in 2012 and the timing works in perfectly with Noel Drennan having recently returned to our employ and is taking on Ross’s loft management responsibilities in Melbourne.' said Michael Coxon

'This outcome shall ensure our clients enjoy a seamless transition and benefit from Noel's 30 years of experience as a North sail maker, Americas Cup and Volvo sail coordinator and professional sailor at the highest level specializing in marrying sail design and rig tune. Noël’s skill sets are internationally respected by sailors and the industry alike and he shall add to and compliment our North team within Australia. I am enjoying working with him again.

'We shall be building on the current strengths of the Melbourne loft, with Noel being supported by Aaron Cole, long serving North employee, skilled America’s cup sail maker and respected Melbourne sailor. Aaron shall be focusing on his customer service, advisory and supply role based from our recently renovated office and loft in St. Kilda. ' Michael added

Noel’s yachting credits are impressive and include numerous successful Volvo and Americas Cups campaigns, RC44 circuits, IRC Maxi Worlds and One Design Championships.

In 2002 Nitro won the Volvo Round the World Race aboard Illbruk. Already this year Noel has won the Etchells Victorian Championships and placed second in the World Championships steering his own boat.

If you are interested in further information about the merger or sails for the forthcoming season please contact either Noel (03 95340363) or Michael on 02 99988500
