New Jeanneau Sun Odyssey vessels added to the range

by Jeanneau Australia on 19 Jul 2017
Underway with the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 - Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 Bertrand Duquenne
Since their launch the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey range has sold over 17,000 yachts. Now we are excited to introduce to you the new generation, the Sun Odyssey 440 and the Sun Odyssey 490. This new generation of sailboats is clearly high performance utilising multiple advance in design and technology to better enhance your quality of life at sea:

• Full length chine
• Secure helm stations
• Twin rudders
• Retractable bow thruster
• Cathedral rigging
• L-shaped keel
• Integrated bowsprit

Starting with entirely new and innovative feature on this type of yacht, the tall protective cockpit coamings are extendable. This results in greater security whilst under way, but as a unique feature the can be laid flat forming a large and accommodating lounging area and sundeck.

Your movement about the deck is facilitated by the separation of the shrouds with the vertical shroud located on the outside of the hull, and inner diagonal shroud placed inboard for an easy passage forward and a large genoa. This design makes it so much easier to go forward as you don’t have to dodge shrouds, and they also make good handholds.

Jeanneau is also releasing specially designed canvas options which include an innovative option of a fully enclosed cockpit, a great extra room, and a high visibility spray hood for protection and comfort in all conditions.

As another great new design featuretThe side decks now incline towards the helm and are in a ‘walkthrough’ style meaning no clambering over the cockpit seats. In addition to the inclined and continuous side decks and the extendable coamings, this new generation of Sun Odysseys benefit from a lower boom. No more clambering up the mast to tidy up the mainsail and it also gives you an increased sail area as a result.

To make your cruise simpler, the headsail and the mainsail are led to accessible centralised winches located near the helm stations for handling from the safety of the cockpit.

We all like sundowners so the cockpit table contributes even more to your enjoyment. It now houses controls for lighting and instruments, as well as a section for storage and an innovative portable 12-volt refrigerator. There is also a portable BBQ that can be used onboard or taken onshore, with the portable fridge, for a picnic!

Access to the comfortable interior is via a gently inclined 40deg companionway. The design house of Jean-Marc Piaton has created a visually and physically large and lighter living space with a contemporary modern design.
The spacious saloon has long hull windows for light, and the mains saloon table can also be folded down easily to a wide comfortable lounge for when the meals have been finished. Perfect for putting your feet up.

The central galley is located in the most stable part of the boat and is easily accessed from both the saloon and the cockpit. More innovations abound with solutions for the microwave and dish storage, easily to hand to satisfy the most demanding chef.

The chart table is designed in the best nautical tradition with a contoured seat and a large, deep desk with integrated storage. Extra storage compartments and a signature clock and barometer set are close to the state of the art touch screen panel enabling excellent monitoring of water, fuel and batteries. Home office anyone?

With a wider forward section of the hull, and by shifting the head compartment aft and the sail locker forward, the owner’s cabin of the new generation of Sun Odysseys enjoys an interior volume never before seen on a boat this size.
The cabin features a luxurious rectangle berth of 160 by 200 cm, with a multitude of storage compartments, as well as a private head and separate shower compartment with double door access.

Your guests are not forgotten with a contemporary and harmonious layout. The design was carefully considered in order to allow each cabin to include large rectangular berths.

The Sun Odyssey 440 and 490 are to be launched with two possible interior layouts, composed of two or three cabins, with two head compartments. More internals layouts for the 490 will follow. The interior design, in teak, will also be available in an optional grey cedar wood finish.

The Sun Odyssey 440 and 490 will be officially launched at the Cannes Boat Show in September 2017 with the first models arriving in Australia in early 2018.
