Back to back wins on Day 4 of the 2015 470 Olympic Sailing Championships have lifted 2012 Olympic Gold medalists, Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie to a massive points lead in the 2015 470 Womens European Championship.
Team Jolly have extended their lead on the women’s fleet to sit 24 points clear after winning both their races today in Arhus, Denmark.
“Another mint day for a sail in Aarhus, sunny, warm and great breeze!” says Jo Aleh. “We had a rather solid day, it was an onshore breeze, rather stable and consistent wind, much like a sea breeze at home in NZ actually!
“So it was a clear first in the first race of the day, then a good battle in race two with the British girls, which we only just managed to pull off!”
'Another mint day for a sail in Aarhus, sunny, warm and great breeze', said Aleh and Powrie. 'We had a rather solid day, it was an onshore breeze, rather stable and consistent wind, much like a sea breeze at home in NZ actually!
'So it was a clear 1st in the first race of the day, then a good battle in race two with the British girls, which we only just managed to pull off! So finished off the day with a 1,1, to add to our scoreline, which is always a good thing!
'Two more races of finals tomorrow, starting at 11am, with another sea-breeze type day forecast, should be some more great racing!
'Denmark is really turning on the weather, with the temperature going to hit the high 20's in the next few days, just lovely!!
Dan Willcox/Paul Snow-Hansen also sailed two races today – they’re holding 17th overall with some work to do to regain a top ten spot for a place in Sunday’s medal race.
Tomorrow is the penultimate day of the regatta and both the NZL Sailing Team crews are scheduled to sail another two gold fleet finals races.
Aon Fast Track crew, Sam Barnett and Zak Merton, is lying 24th in the men’s silver fleet.
