With the fleet so far representing nine different Hunter and Sydney yacht club’s and last year’s fleet size of 26 yachts having been surpassed Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club’s (NCYC) 2012 Newcastle to Port Stephens Race should be bigger and better than ever.

With 27 entries to date NCYC’s Newcastle to Port Stephens Race is shaping as a real show down, especially in the 30-40 footer range. Starting at 1000 hrs next Sunday morning some great head to head battles in dash up Stockton Bight will be evident especially between the three Farr 40’s competing in the race and Barry Kelly’s M34, Concealed Weapon, and Brad Sewells’s Melges 32, Breezin. Also entered for the race is well known offshore sailor Anthony Paterson’s Beneteau 34.7, Tow Truck , and the well campaigned Beneteau 523, Antipodes, owned by Greg Newton and based out of the CYCA.

As a feeder race to the Sail Port Stephens Regatta, the 29nm NCYC Newcastle to Port Stephens Race is a great way of hopping up the coast on the weekend prior to events kicking off at Sail Port Stephens. NCYC is providing free berthing on the Saturday evening for non-NCYC yachts that are competing in the Newcastle to Port Stephens Race including those yachts entered in RPAYC’s Pittwater to Newcastle Race being run on Saturday 14 April 2012.

To view the Notice of Race and to enter the NCYC Newcastle to Port Stephens Race go to www.ncyc.net.au and click on the link on the right hand side on NCYC’s webpage.
