Modest start for Kiwis at Princesa Sofia Mapfre Trophy

New Zealand sailors generally got off to a very modest start on the first day of the Princesa Sofia Mapfre Trophy, third event of the ISAF World Cup.
The racing was held in light and stable breezes allowing racing in the nine Olympic classes on the Bay of Palma.
Top performer for New Zealand was Sara Winther, sailing in the Laser Radial class, she lies in eighth place overall after scoring a 16th and 3rd places in the two races sailed. She is competing in a 62 strong fleet.
Justina Sellers, just out of the Youth division, is in 18th overall of the 30 competitors in the RS:X Womens windsurfer. She placed 13th ind 30th in today's racing.
There are seven New Zealand competitors in the Mens Laser fleet. Michael Bullot is the best performed lying in 11th place after the first day - he finished 11th and eighth places in the Yellow fleet in a total field of 134 competitors.
Other New Zealand placings were:
Josh Junior: 29th overall - 28th and 7th in the Yellow fleet
Andy Maloney: 31th overall - 3rd and 33rd in the Blue fleet
Same Meech: 67th overall - 34th and 28th in the Yellow fleet
James Sandall: 74th overall - 37th and 30th in the Yellow fleet
Blair McLay: 83rd overall - 27th and 49 in the Blue fleet
Matt Coutts: 121st overall - 58th and 61st in the Blue fleet
