The 2010 NZ Finn Nationals sailed at Maraetai 4-7 March was won by Mark Perrow in a display of consistent sailing and a degree of good fortune in a boat borrowed from Dan Slater.
For the 8 races over the first 3 days Dan produced a clinical performance to win all 8 and looked on track to complete the task on the final day. However he was a no-show on Sunday when the final 3 races were sailed. This meant he carried a DNS and allowed Mark to finish ahead on 16 points against Dan's 26.
17 boats contested the Nationals with three traveling from the South Island. Until just prior to the contest 22 boats were expected however late withdrawals saw this number reduce. This is the largest fleet to contest the nationals for many years and continues the growth in fleet numbers and interest in the class.
Racing over the four days saw a full range of conditions from 25 Knots gusting 30 from the SW on Thursday to no wind for most of Friday with 2 races finally being completed when the SW arrived after 4.00pm.
Saturday and Sunday produced excellent sailing conditions with 10-15 knot easterlies that allowed Race Officer Richard Brown to complete the full 11 race series.
Good close racing across the whole fleet, well run by Maraetai Sailing club and volunteers.
