Les Canadiens en finale de la Coupe du monde à Abu Dhabi

La finale de la coupe du monde de voile ISAF à Abu Dhabi aura lieu du 26 au 30 novembre. Avec au plus 20 embarcations prenant part dans 11 classes, la liste finale comprend des marins hors pair. Les 10 épreuves olympiques comprendront une série d’ouverture et une course aux médailles où la flottille de surf cerf-volant aura un format court du parcours. Des prix en argent seront alloués aux trois premières places dans chacune des épreuves olympiques pour un total 200 000 USD en prix.

Le Canada a des représentants dans la classe Laser et Radial, où Lee Parkhill (RCYC) et Claire Merry (RCYC) prendront le départ jeudi. Parkhill aura comme compétiteur le médaillé d’argent des Mondiaux, Tom Burton (AUS) ainsi que le médaillé de bronze, Nick Thompson (GBR). La flottille Radial comprend également des poids lourds, tels la Belge Evi van Acker et l’Américaine Paige Railey qui revient à la compétition après avoir été absente à cause d’une blessure lors des Mondiaux de Santanders.

Luke Ramsey et Nikola Girke (RVYC), quant à eux, participeront dans la redoutable flottille de Nacra 17, et essayeront d’améliorer leurs compétences de course en se mesurant aux meilleurs du monde en catamaran, dont le vainqueur de la Volvo Ocean Race, Frank Cammas (FRA) et autres légendes de la voile.

Les cérémonies d’ouvertures auront lieu le mardi et les courses commenceront le jeudi à midi, heure locale. Les gagnants seront déterminés lors de la course aux médailles prévue le 30 novembre.
