by CORK on 24 Apr 2013
Lasers CORK Kingston
From the International Laser Class; 'We are pleased to announce that CORK (Kingston, Canada) has been selected to host the 2015 Laser Men’s Standard and the Masters Worlds. Pending final confirmation and contract signing between ILCA and CORK, the events will take place June 29-July 8 (Men’s) and July 10-18 (Masters) out of the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The dates were set so be timed as a lead up for Laser sailors competing in the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games. The 2015 Worlds will also be an important event for sailors trying to qualify or get ready for the 2016 Olympics.

Although Puerto Vallarta would be an excellent venue and of course a fantastic vacation site, it would be difficult to ensure sufficient availability of charter boats, particularly for the Masters Worlds.'

Kingston 2015 will mark the 35th anniversary of the famous 1980 Laser Worlds held in Kingston, which had 351 entries. Andy also remarked that, 'For the 2015 Masters Worlds I’m planning to send out 'you have to go' notices to guys who raced in the ’80 Worlds, like former Laser World champs, Ed Baird and Terry Neilson, and to other well-known sailors, like Russell Coutts, Torben Grael, Dave Perry and Cam Lewis. Two years notice should be enough, Read more here

HK Raceweek 2017- sunshine, breeze, fog (all of them)
Race day 23 at HK Raceweek was like sailing in Melbourne. Four seasons in the same day. The forecast for the morning was for a light breeze at first and that’s precisely what it was – but a little too light to put it mildly. RO Barry Truhol said shortly before 1000hrs, 'we are sat in the middle of Stanley Bay; Round Island zero breeze, zero knots; Stanley Bay, zero breeze, zero knots; out towards Tai Tam Bay zero breeze, zero knots. (Spoiler alert: it didn't last).
