Kona Europeans about to kick-off in Båstad

The best possible conditions are expected with the 2014 European Championships in ISAF-class Kona One about to start in Båstad, Sweden. A total of 70 female and male sailors from eight countries will line up. Sailors with plentiful of experience and medals from different windsurfing classes will meet young talents, making the outcome very open.


Among the favorites is Danish windsurfing legend Tim Aagesen who has won a number of world championships over three decades. Another name mentioned with great respect is Adam Holm (20 year) from Sweden who was the 2012 Kona World Champion.

What sets Kone One apart from many other classes is the spread in ages. The experienced sailors will meet toughest possible competition from several young talents. One is Swedish Andrea Holm (17 years) who finished third overall in the Europeans last years and won the Swedish Championship, before all male sailors.


'We welcome everyone to Båstad where we want to offer the best possible Championship and make it a memorable event, for racers and spectators. We aim to offer also an attractive program to spectators, Pekko Svensson, head of the racing organization Sailing Båstad, comments.

The event will take place in sailing mecca Båstad out of the Swedish west coast, July 31 – August 3. This time of the year the conditions are normally very stable with winds ranging from 10 – 20 knots making it ideal for Kona-racing.

The opening ceremony will be held today, Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be fleet race and qualification for the final that will take place on Sunday where the ten best qualify.





About Kona One-class: One of the fastest growing windsurfing classes globally and part of ISAF. A one type class where all sailors use identical boards. One sail is used in all conditions and size is according to weight for most fair conditions possible. Kona One is further a non-pumping class.
