The next Medical Management for Mariners (MMM) course will be held in April/May 2013 in Sydney at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA). Normal first aid courses are better than nothing, but they don't hold a candle to the information in this course which is aimed at leisure sailors to help other leisure sailors survive in times of injury and illness.

The aim of this course is to enhance the skills and knowledge of sailors in the assessment and management of a crew member who sustains an injury or experiences a medical condition while at sea. Remember that almost without exception it will be many hours or days before you can access professional help. Doing this course could make the difference between life and death for your fellow crew.

The course is delivered by health care professioinals including Dr Greg O’Sullivan (Director of Anaesthetics, SVH), Dr Gordian Fulde(Director Emergency Department, SVH), Dr Stephen Quain (orthopaedic specialist, SVH) and paramedic Cameron Edgar.

The course assumes prior knowledge of first aid principles and sailing experience. To undertake the course participants must hold a current (or recently expired) first aid certificate and be members of the sailing community.

The MMM course will be conducted over the following dates in 2013:
Tuesday 23rd April 6pm – 9.30pm
Tuesday 30th April 6pm – 9.30pm
Saturday 4th May 9am – 4.30pm
Tuesday 7th May 6pm – 9.30pm
Tuesday 14th May 6pm – 9.00pm
