A string of bright blue days in the Whitsundays and the caravan has moved from Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week to Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, where 160+ boats will racing in the 29th annual event.

A steady succession of yachts coming in from Airlie and lots of boats out rig tuning, checking sails and getting acquainted.

The SuperBand is tuning up on mainstreet.

The Skippers Welcome function is just a few hours away, at the Hamilton Island Yacht Club.

Here are a few images we’ve all enjoyed from the last few weeks.

We will of course bring you all the latest from Hamilton Island over the next week and we will then be at Magnetic Island from August 30th to September 5th where the number of southern boats has jumped again.

Ocean Racing Looms Again
Gone are the days of everyone having the whole weekend available to spend on just the one pastime. Sitting at Airlie watching another retired old giant of the sea take backpackers out for a jaunt into the Whitsunday Islands, I got to thinking about the boats that will soon be on their way and all the crew that is needed to undertake both delivery and racing.

Endearing oneself…

They sure do need the love and if you race her hard, she will need lots of things attended to. Not all of them will be below the waterline and not every boat has a full-time Nigel and an owner who gets the yard to do the work.
