Inaugural Cruising Masterclass at the Sydney International Boat Show

by Nancy Knudsen on 16 Jun 2013
Cruising Masterclass SW
Maybe you know a lot about sailing, but do you know all you need to know for cruising? Are you up to date with the latest sailing aids? safety systems? Technology? Do you know all about snubbers, sentinels, Med Hooks? If the answer is no or maybe, then attend the Cruising Masterclass at the Sydney Boat Show, 3/4 August. You'll never regret it. It's free in the inaugural year (apart from your Boat Show entry) but MUST be reserved

During the two full days of seminars, you will learn an amazing cross section of cruising lore from the best boating talent in Australia and New Zealand – all the down-to-earth tips and tricks you need to learn to ensure your cruising is trouble-free and you sail with the confidence of knowing you have prepared your boat and crew well.

The series of seminars will cover such subjects as Secrets of secure anchoring, Passage Planning, Electronics – communications, collision avoidance, AIS and radar, MOB and SOB(Staying on board) techniques, Rigging and sails for cruising, including heavy weather, Vessel systems, water, fuel, power options, Weather and modelling for successful forecasting, Applied navigation, Multihulls vs monohulls, Cruising with kids. In addition there will be two seminars on cruising north to the Whitsundays and cruising south to Tasmania - the best anchorages, the dangers, hard core information from experienced cruising sailors who have done it multiple times. It's also a time to share experiences, to add if you have useful information to add.

As you can see, most of the subjects are also applicable, not only to racing and cruising sailors who want to venture beyond their own sailing area, but also to power boaters and fishermen who go to sea.

Sail-World Cruising is gathering international and interstate cruising talent as well as home-grown Sydney experts in their subjects, to offer the most comprehensive, intense collection of information ever compiled in one place in Australia. The Masterclass is to be given in a private classroom, away from the 'madding crowd' of the Boat Show.

As well as all that valuable information you will have the opportunity to mingle and discuss issues and challenges with the facilitators and the other participants in the fabulous informal surroundings of Darling Harbour and the Boat Show.

You can register for individual sessions, or for a day, or for the whole cruising masterclass. Here is the program:
