On Tuesday the maxis and supermaxis that will contest the 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart, in just over two weeks time, lined up on Sydney harbour for the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge.

Beth Morley of Sport Sailing Photography was on the water and provided this gallery of images from the day.

Key point of interest was whether the new US supermaxi Comanche (Jim and Kirsty Clark) would be able to overcome the local champion Wild Oats XI.

The presence of twice America's Cup winner Jimmy Spithill and four times Olympic Gold medalist, Ben Ainslie, on board opposing boats, put a new edge on the contest.
