It might seem a strange partnership, toothbrushes and the Olympic 470 dinghy It might seem a strange partnership, toothbrushes and the Olympic 470 dinghy, but the humble toothbrush plays an important role in the boat’s spinnaker set up and handling. We decided to find out more as to why some teams are ardent supporters of the toothbrush, whilst other teams are 100% against the approach, preferring to use the more refined sail batten to achieve the same outcome.

Perth 2011 proved to be a major sailing success for Australia on and off the water. Perth 2011 proved to be a major sailing success for Australia on and off the water. Three World Championship Gold medals from Mat Belcher, Malcolm Page, Nathan Outteridge, Iain Jensen and Tom Slingsby show that sailing is shaping as a significant Olympic sport for Australia in 2012.

Perth 2011- Grandstand Sailing - the day that sailing changed
It was standing room only in the Grandstand, and the crowd was right amongst the action. The last four medal races at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships were conducted on the Bathers Beach course, in Fremantle Harbour, Western Australia and it was standing room only in the Grandstand. The crowd was right amongst the action.

ISAF Sailing World Championships - Aussies take 49er gold in Perth
ISAF Sailing World Championships - The medals have now been decided at the 49er Worlds with Aussies taking the gold The 49er Worlds, taking place as a part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth, now have medals decided with Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen adding another trophy to their cabinets and titles to their credit as they claimed the 2011 49er World Championship title on home waters.

The closing day of the ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth allowed for the very best of grandstand sailing The closing day of the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth, Australia allowed for the very best of grandstand sailing to be displayed in the midst champagne conditions. Spectators snapped up every available seat and space around Bathers Bay to watch as the final four world titles were decided in the women’s 470, 49er, men’s RS:X, and Laser classes.
